2.0 DLC: Mechanics Update
Walljump -Dash Exploit:
Fixed: touching the same wall after dashing no longer charges it. So technically you can still do it once, but then it doesn't recharge until you touch the floor or an opposing wall. Can be used as a panic button to get out of danger
Jittery Animation:
Fixed: thought it might be due to bad ground detection, but it was just the character becoming airborne for a moment as the platform moved down. Mostly fixed the animation anyway (didn't spend much time on that)
Bad Ground Detection:
Fixed: notice that while the player jumps and their feet cross the platform for a frame or two the sprite changes as if the character was grounded. This was causing some weird behavior sometimes and it also recharged the dash, since technically the character was grounded. I added an extra check in the ground detection to make sure the character is falling. That fixed the issue.
Jump Cancel:
Kept: notice how the second jump in the clip got cancelled into a dash, which erased any vertical velocity. This technique is more-or-less necessary to complete some 1.0 levels. We were aware already aware of it back then and we liked it as an "advanced technique". But, since the timing on it is pretty strict, I decided to keep it but make it not strictly necessary to complete the game (as I discuss below).
Dash Cancel:
Fixed: here the velocity of the dash is immediately cancelled by holding in the opposite direction. This happened unintentionally sometimes and did not really create interesting gameplay possibilities. Besides, pressing the dash button should mean committing to the dash action. Disabling movement input during dashes fixed this.
Further Movement Changes:
- Removed ground movement momentum to make movement snappier. Parts of some levels were very tricky because small position adjustments were really difficult
- Reduces air drift for similar reasons as the change in ground movement. There was also an exploit similar to the walljump-dash exploit that this change fixes
